Compost

A soil enrichment or composting material comprising plant-originating organic material and an animal manure or slurry, such as pig slurry. The plant-originating organic material includes a wood-based organic material present in a form amenable to breakdown in soil during enrichment or composting use. The plant-originating organic material is mixed substantially uniformly with the animal manure or slurry. Preferably the wood-based organic material comprises wood chips treated to breakdown the ligaments in the wood preparatory to mixing the plant-originating organic material with the animal manure or slurry. The treatment may comprise crushing to reduce the wood chips to substantially uniform particles of small dimensions. The material of the invention is suitably prepared by storing it for a period of organic degradation or decomposition following a mixing operation.
