The assembly has a device supporting an annular radially extending jounce stopper ledge adjacent the unit upper end. A cylindrical metal canister is fixed to and extends downwardly from an underside of the support member concentrically disposed on the unit principal axis. An elastomeric jounce bumper is concentrically positioned on an upper portion of the rod having an upper end face in flush abutment with a central portion of the support member and a lower end face spaced a predetermined dimension above the unit upper end with the assembly in a static design model. The canister in the design mode concentrically encircles an upper portion of the bumper with its lower extremity defining an annular stopper edge vertically positioned intermediate the bumper upper and lower end faces so as to define a predetermined maximum axial jounce dimension between the canister stopper edge and unit stopper ledge. Upon the assembly undergoing maximum jounce travel, the canister stopper edge contacts the unit stopper ledge, the jounce bumper is compressed a predetermined axial dimension between the support member and unit upper end obviating over-compression of the bumper.
