PURPOSE: To provide a nickel electrode for use in an alkaline storage battery, that exhibits its effects while reducing the material added to the nickel electrode for enhancement of charging efficiency at high temperatures and to provide the alkaline storage battery. CONSTITUTION: Nickel hydroxide powders and cobalt oxide powders are kneaded in a weight ratio of 90 to 10 together with a 2wt.% aqueous solution of hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose to prepare a slurry, and after the slurry is packed in a three-dimensional nickel foam base, dried and pressed, a slurry of calcium carbonate kneaded with the former slurry in an aqueous solution of carboxymethyl cellulose is applied to both surfaces of an electrode and dried to obtain a nickel electrode. A large amount of calcium carbonate exists on the surfaces of the electrode and is 0.5wt.%, of the total amount packed. An amount as small as 2wt.% or less is enough to produce sufficient effects. |
