PURPOSE: To specially effectively use an R-component light beam among the light beams spectrally split by a hologram on which the white light beam is made incident and to precisely keep the white balance of a white picture as for a liquid crystal display device using the hologram. CONSTITUTION: By arranging the hologram 2 so that the condensing point 8r of the R-component light beam is positioned near a picture element R among the respective color light beams spectrally split and made incident on the picture elements R, G and B by the hologram 2 arranged on the light incident side of a liquid crystal panel 4, the R-component light beam whose spectral intensity distribution is generally small among the light beams spectrally split by the hologram 2 can be effectively used. |
