PURPOSE: To prevent clothes from being hooked on a ladder when it is used by fitting horizontal bars to a pair of hollow stanchions to form a ladder member, and connecting the ladder members expandably in the height direction to form a ladder with hooking members so that the hooking members are not protruded to the outside. CONSTITUTION: Hollow stanchions 44 forming an upper ladder member are extracted from hollow stanchions 44 provided with horizontal bars 46, hook pins 49 are inserted into through holes 47, 48 provided on both stanchions 44, 44, and both ladder members are hooked in the extended state. When the inside stanchions 44 are extracted and the through holes 47, 48 coincide, the hook pins 49 slidably fitted to slide cams 50 are extruded to hook the inner and outer stanchions 44, 44. When the ladder is to be shortened (stored), the lower end sections 61 of the slide cams 50 provided on the horizontal bars 46 are pushed up, and the hook pins 49 are removed. The upper ladder is lowered by the tare weight, lower ridge-shaped projections 62 push up the upper slide cams 50, and they are stored in sequence.
