PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a taxane type diterpene which is useful as a medicine for treating ovarian cancer, mammalian cancer and lung cancer by culturing plant cells or tissues producing taxane type diterpene at a prescribed specific replacement rate and recovering the product from the culture mixture. CONSTITUTION: When cells or tissues of a plant (Taxus baccata) producing a taxane type diterpene such as taxol are cultured at a specific replacement rate of the culture medium, the make-up culture medium is continuously or intermittently added at 0.1-10 specific replacement rate defined as a dimensionless number F=v/V/μwhere V is total volume of the culture medium in the tank, v is the feed rate of the make-up medium andμis specific proliferation rate of cells or tissues. In the meantime, the culture mixture containing the cells or tissues are continuously or intermittently taken out of the tank and/or the culture mixture free from the cells or tissues taken out of the tank is extracted to recover the product. Thus, this taxane type diterpene useful as a remedy for ovarian cancer, mammalian cancer or lung cancer is simply obtained in a large amount. |
