EXPANDABLE ABS RESIN PARTICLE AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE: To provide expandable ABS resin particles capable of giving a molded foam excellent in chemical resistance, toughness, and especially surface appearance and heat resistance; and to provide a process for producing the particles. CONSTITUTION: This particles contain a foaming agent and have an internal- water content of 5wt.% or lower. When the particles are expanded 30 times, each expanded particle has an unexpanded surface layer having a thickness of 50μm or smaller. The process for producing the expandable particles comprises dispersing ABS resin particles into an aqueous medium in a closed vessel and infiltrating a volatile foaming agent into the particles in the presence of an electrolyte, the concentration of the electrolyte in the aqueous medium being 0.01-2mol/l at least during the infiltration.
