摘要 PURPOSE: To increase the amount of oxygen supplied to a cathode surface so as to enhance oxygen pressure by providing a fuel gas channel and an oxidizing gas channel, and forming at least the oxidizing gas channel into a shape curved within a plane perpendicular to electrodes. CONSTITUTION: To allow the polyelectrolyte film 12 of a fuel cell 11 to contain water to a saturated state so as to function as a proton-conductive electrolyte having a specific resistance of 20Ω.cm or less at room temperature, steam is mixed in hydrogen gas supplied via a fuel gas channel 17 and in air supplied via an oxygen gas channel, so as to keep the film 12 wet. In an anode 14, H2 gas circulating through the channel 17 and protons together form electrons. In a cathode 13, oxygen in air flowing through the channel 16, protons migrating within the film 12 from the anode, and electrons migrating through an external circuit react with one another to produce water. Since the channel 16 is formed into a circular shape, secondary flow is produced in stratified air flowing within the channel 16, and the amount of gas supplied to the surfaces of electrodes is increased by the stirring action of the secondary flow and by a rise in flow velocity, resulting in enhanced outputs.
