PURPOSE: To improve both gradation and picture quality by finding a correction area in which correction is applied to an original image by calculation setting the number of judging areas continuing in vertical and horizontal directions as a parameter. CONSTITUTION: An image processing function 200 comprises the five steps of input (γ) conversion 201, UCR(Under Color Remove) and black generation 202, masking 203, output (γ) conversion 204 and intermediate processing 205. When quantization processing is performed from multivalue data, the quantization processing to set image data in data of at least three levels is performed, and plural pieces of image data are set as one judging area, and a part possible to apply smoothing correction corresponding to the judging area is detected. Moreover, the number of judging areas continuing in the vertical and horizontal directions is detected setting such area detecting part as an origin, and the correction area in which the correction is applied to the original image is found by calculation setting the number of areas continuing in the vertical and horizontal directions as the parameter. |
