PURPOSE: To provide an excellent deodorizing characteristic and mechanical strength by forming a photocatalyst thin film having a specific rate of porosity over the surface of a base material. CONSTITUTION: A photocatalyst thin film having a porosity of 10-40%, more preferably between 10-30%, is formed on the surface of a base material while an intermediate layer is interposed in between. The crystal diameters of particles constituting the thin film should be below 0.1μm, preferably below 0.04μm, while the film thickness be over 0.5μm, more preferably be over 0.6μm. The photocatalyst constituting the thin film may be any which has a band gap able to producing active oxygen, for example TiO2 , SrTiO3 , ZnO.CdS, CdSe, MoS3 , SiC, GaP, etc. This presents an excellent deodorizing characteristic and mechanical strength.
