<p>PURPOSE: To obtain diarylamines in high yield under mild conditions by dehydrogenating a compound containing nitrogen in the presence of a metallic catalyst in the coexistence of phenols. CONSTITUTION: A compound containing nitrogen of formula I (X is formula II, etc.; R<1> to R<4> are each H, Cl, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an aryl, etc.) is dehydrogenated in the presence of a metallic catalyst selected from copper, copper- chromium, Pd, Pt, Ru and oxides thereof in the coexistence of phenols of formula III (R<5> and R<6> are each H, Cl or an alkyl) in a solvent (e.g. toluene) at 100-300 deg.C for 2-30hr to afford a compound of formula IV. The phenols are used in an amount of 0.1-20 equiv. based on the compound of formula I and the catalyst is used in an amount of 0.5-20wt.% based on the compound of formula I. The compound of formula IV is useful for organic rubber chemicals, dyes, stabilizers, raw materials for medicines, specialty chemicals, etc.</p> |
