The procedure consists of growing the plants in one or more artificial substrates such as a mineral wool or synthetic polymer foam, and applying biological controls for plant pests during the cultivation, using one or more recesses (2) in the substrate which are made to receive a nutrient medium. The recesses can be made directly in the substrate or in containers placed in the substrate. The biological pest control can be, for example, Amblysius cucumeris, introduced at a rate of 5 - 100 per plant and applied in a medium which has no direct contact with the plants during cultivation. The medium is kept in an atmosphere of 60 - 90 per cent humidity and a temperature of 15 - 25 deg. C. |
