PURPOSE: To restrain the occurrence of a pinhole due to a storage and light load discharge by adding the specified compound to the internal space of a battery, regarding a manganese dry battery using a zinc can without any addition of Cd and not containing Hg. CONSTITUTION: A tin compound is added to the internal space of a battery. Preferably, the compound is added to a glue material 15 (e.g. glue material obtainable by mixing bridged starch, methyl cellulose and water) applied to the surface of a separator 2 in contact with a zinc can 1. More preferably, stannous chloride is used as the zinc compound, and the amount thereof to be added to the separator 2 is taken at a value between 3 and 60μg/cm<2> . When the stannous chloride is not used, an amount to be applied to the separator 2 is taken at a value between 3 and 600μg/cm<2> , provided that tin ion concentration is converted to the corresponding value of the stannous chloride. |
