PURPOSE: To protect a battery against overcharge or overdischarge by measuring the temperature of a plurality of cells respectively and controlling a charging process on the basis of a temperature change per unit time. CONSTITUTION: In the case of charging a combined battery formed out of a plurality of connected cells. the temperature of each cell is measured, and a charging process is controlled on the basis of a temperature change per unit time. Also, when the rise of the temperature of at least one cell to the reference value of a temperature change per unit time is detected, a charging current value is reduced or the charging process is stopped. Also, when the rise of the temperature of all cells fitted with temperature detector elements to the reference value is detected, the charging current value is reduced or the charging process is stopped. |
