PURPOSE: To enhance a CSS characteristic and at the same time to realize a low glide height by changing the texture processing of an arphous carbon substrate for a magnetic disk, particularly, a GC substrate. CONSTITUTION: Texture processing is applied to the surface of a substrate by powder beam work, namely, by jetting very fine particles having an average particle diameter of 0.5 to 6μm from a nozzle 3 to make them collide with the surface of the substrate 1. The surface roughness after the texture processing is applied is made so that the average roughness Ra of a center line is 5 to 30Åand the maximum height Rp is 20 to 200Å.
