PURPOSE: To arbitrarily select a compression method in accordance with the property of an instruction string in a program to perform compression. CONSTITUTION: A code expansion circuit 16 expands a compressed program based on the code table stored in a code memory 18. In this case, an align signal 192 is issued from the code memory 18 correspondingly to the end part of each code so that the code expansion circuit 16 can recognize the start position of the next code. The code table is stored in the code memory 18 by designation in the program. A selector 19 receives codes, which are not compressed, and expanded codes from a prefetch circuit 10 and an original code buffer 17 respectively and selects one of them by a select signal 191 from an instruction decoder 11. |
