PURPOSE: To provide the musical tone generating device which can reduce the capacity of a RAM that should be prepared as a waveform memory and speedily gets ready to generate a musical tone by reducing the transfer amount of waveform data as to a musical tone generating device which transfers waveform data stored in a fixed storage device to a rewritable waveform memory and performs musical tone generation. CONSTITUTION: The musical tone generating device is equipped with the fixed storage device 14 stored with plural waveform data corresponding to plural timbres, a 1st read-only waveform memory 220 stored with waveform data corresponding to a specific timbre, a 2nd rewritable waveform memory 221 for storing the waveform data stored in the fixed storage device, a selecting means 11 which selects specific waveform data in the fixed storage device, a transfer means 10 which transfers the waveform data selected by the selecting means to the 2nd waveform memory, and musical tone generating means 20, 24, 25, and 26 which generate a musical tone on the basis of the waveform data transferred by the transfer means to the 2nd waveform memory or the waveform data stored in the 1st waveform memory. |
