The mechanism has a valve (16) which seals an opening acting as a drain hole (3). The valve is attached to a T-shaped float (11) in a bell (6) which covers the opening and has an overflow pipe (10). The assembly formed by valve, float and pipe move vertically. A control device (13) is attached to the upper end of the pipe which passes through the cover (4) of the cistern.The control device is cylindrical and its cross section is the same or slightly larger than the pipe, usually between 30 and 45 mm. A second valve (20) attached to the overflow pipe seals an opening (9) in the upper part of the bell when the first valve is raised. The float is extended beyond the first valve so as to increase its volume when the valve is raised.
