PURPOSE: To provide a dot area detector by which even a very small dot area is surely detected. CONSTITUTION: A small matrix is used to detect a rising or a trailing edge of a picture element and the number of rising edges or trailing edges in a detection area of a prescribed picture element number are calculated and whether or not an area is a dot area is discriminated by using the result of calculation. Thus, a very small dot area having not been detected by a conventional detector is detected. |
