METHOD FOR RECORDING/REPRODUCING DATA OF MAGNETIC TAPE AND MAGNETIC TAPE APPARATUS

PURPOSE: To prevent a magnetic head from shifting to a track by selectively recording and reproducing data to an optional set of tracks among a plurality of tracks on a magnetic tape through the movement of a head element. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus is provided with a motor 4 which moves and positions a magnetic head 1 via a carriage 4a supporting the magnetic head 1 at an optional position in a direction intersecting a running direction of a magnetic tape 2, and a microprocessor 5 for controlling the motor 4. A signal- processing part 6 is connected to the microprocessor 5 for the control operation. The magnetic head 1 is positionally controlled to move in a direction of an arrow 3 which is vertical to the running direction of the magnetic tape 2. Data read out by the magnetic head 1 are amplified by a read amplifier 6a, and a track shift is detected from data obtained from a servo track or the like. The positioning of the magnetic head 1 and correcting of the track shift are conducted by the control of the motor 4 by tone microprocessor 5.
