The instrument consists of a rod (16) with an invagination element (10) which is designed to be fixed to the vein by a ligature (28). The invagination element has a fixing collar (18) formed by a recess to receive the ligature, and a neighbouring body section (24) of increased diameter, situated immediately after the collar in the direction of stripping (F2). The collar recess can extend transversely in relation to the lengthwise axis of the rod or, in a variant, be set at an oblique angle to it. The body section of increased diameter, which acts as an expander, can be cylindrical, truncated conical or ovoid in shape. The rod, collar and expander can be made in one piece from a moulded plastics on the end of a metal extraction rod.
