A flying clothes-horse consisting of a frame with cords 1 which is suspended from the ceiling by folding arms 2 which are screwed by the base to the ceiling. The shaft 6 is supported on the ceiling by bearings which are bolted with bolts. The worm mechanism 7 at the end of the shaft can be operated by hand by a crank or electrically. Turning the crank 8 to the left, the cord 5 is uncoiled from the shaft 6, moves on the sheaves 4, slowly freeing the arms 2 so that the frame descends to a height to enable the clothes to be put on the line (diagram 1). Turning the crank 8 to the right, the cord 5 is wound around the shaft 6 passing over the sheaves 4; the arms 2 close and the frame 1 reaches the ceiling (diagram 2). The frame and the arms are made of aluminium or stainless steel; their length and width are unlimited. If the length of the clothes-horse is large then the frame can be folded for easy transport (diagram 3). The arms 2 can be supported on the wall as in diagrams 1a and 2a. Details of construction can be seen in diagram 4. The advantages of this invention are that the clothes are protected and are not exposed so as to be drenched or covered by dust either by rain or from the balcony of the apartment above since the frame is raised to the ceiling of the balcony by the mechanism 7. Furthermore the space on the balcony is freed so that any work needed may be done. |
