UNIPOLAR BLOCKING METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING ELECTRICALLY CHARGED PARTICLES

An apparatus for monitoring an electrical charged particle (29) includes a coil (20) defining an opening (23). The coil (20) generates a bipolar signal responsive to the electrical charged particle passing the opening (23). A unipolar blocking diode (27) connected to the coil (20) passes a first portion (26a) of the bipolar signal having a first polarity and blocks a second portion (26c) of the bipolar signal having a second polarity. A monitor device (38) connected to the unipolar blocking diode (27) generates an output signal of the charged particle based upon the first portion (26a) of the bipolar signal which is passed by the unipolar blocking diode (27).
