VORTEX PIPE

The proposed vortex pipe comprises a chamber (4) for the energy-conversion division of a turbulent gas stream into a cooled and a hot gas stream. A vibrator (12) is provided to apply pressure fluctuations to the turbulent gas stream in the chamber (4); the vibrator is mounted coaxially with the chamber and is provided with a base (18) which is secured to (for example) a hot gas stream outlet valve (11), and with at least two parallel branches (19) leading off from the base (18) towards a tangential nozzle inlet (6). The branches (19) of the vibrator (12) being of sufficient length, the zone in which pressure fluctuations are applied to the gas stream is enlarged, while the distance of the branches (19) from the axis of the chamber (4) ensures that the zone in question is created in the peripheral part of the vortex where the bulk of the gas is found. This promotes a more intensive energy exchange in the vortex pipe and improves the pipe's energy characteristics.
