<p>A method and apparatus for making plastic lenses having diffractive features includes a mold having a plurality of 'B' plates (12) attached to a press platen driven by a ram of the press (10) and a plurality of 'A' plates (14) attached to a fixed platen of the press (10). The plates (12, 14) have mold features defined by inserts located within mold plates (16, 74). When the press is closed, the inserts define a mold volume and the diffractive features of the lens being molded. When the press is closed, molten plastic is injected under heat and pressure and the plastic is allowed to cool and harden. The plastic lens having been formed, the press is opened and the plastic lens is ejected from the press.</p> |
