<p>Disclosed is a method for regulating the activity of matrix metalloproteinases in a biological tissue. The method comprises adjusting the concentration of nitric oxide to which said metalloproteinases are exposed. The method may be used to treat a variety of disease states, such as in tumor metastasis, otitis media, pulmonary emphysema, and schleroderma. The invention may also be used to prevent the loosening of surgical implants.</p> |
