The invention concerns the design of a rotary internal combustion engine comprising the following elements: a hollow housing; a hollow drum to accommodate a ring of sealing-compression fluid mounted on the shaft within the housing symmetrically about the axis; a rotor with radial projections on the end faces and blades in the spaces between those projections, the rotor being mounted eccentrically on the shaft in the drum cavity; combustion chambers and systems for supplying power, cooling, lubricating contact parts and drawing torque from the rotor. To improve reliability, efficiency and smooth running over a wide range of load fluctuations, the drum and rotor are kinetically interconnected and mounted in the housing on a common crankshaft which together with the housing is kinetically connected to a common system for drawing power. Windows are provided in the end faces of the drum to allow connection to power supply, cooling and fluid supply systems. The rotor has a radial projection from one end face, the projection being in the form of a dense ring-shaped comb. On the opposite end face, it has radial projections in the form of at least two discrete combs of variable height and is sectioned lengthways by an intermediate ring-shaped radial comb into a relatively short compressor zone and a more extended expansion zone which communicates with an exhaust duct. At least two radial blades are housed in each of these zones, and at least two through-channels are provided in the body of the rotor, connecting the zones and serving as combustion chambers.
