<p>A reflective picture element electrode (107) comprising Cr is provided on a substrate (108), and a transparent picture element electrode (102) comprising ITO is formed on a substrate (101). High-pretilt films (106, 103) formed by subjecting polyimide to a rubbing process are provided on these two substrates (108, 101) respectively. The rubbing is done so that the liquid crystals are twisted clockwise at 270°. A polymer-dispersed liquid crystal material, in which liquid crystals (105) and polymer particles (104) are dispersed and aligned, is provided between the two substrates (108, 101). The liquid crystals are aligned at a large pretilt angle with respect to the substrates (108, 101). Since the liquid crystals are thus aligned at a large pretilt angle, a driving voltage decreases, and a response speed of the crystals increases, the unevenness of a displayed image being eliminated.</p> |
