PHENYLALANINE-FREE FOOD FOR INFANTS AND SMALL CHILDREN

Proposed is a phenylalanine-free nutrient basis for infants and small children as well as a method of producing it. In addition to a mixture of amino-acids including all the L-amino-acids, except for phenylalanine, necessary for child nutrition, the nutrient basis contains fats and/or carbohydrates plus, optionally, minerals and/or trace elements. The nutrient basis is produced by spray-drying and aqueous formulation containing the above ingredients. At least part of at least the amino-acids lysine and cystine is added to the dry product obtained after spray-drying. Owing to the fact that these amino-acids are not spray-dried with the other ingredients, the product obtained is free of undesired by-products formed during spray-drying.
