The relay unit is inserted between a station and the communication channel and has connections (IDN2,IDN1) to both a a FIFO double-port memory with a station region (FIFO-e) and a channel region (FIFO-r) for transmission and reception buffering respectively. These regions are dimensioned to accept the maximum channel load and are independently accessible. The regions are used by hierarchical control units (UC1,UC2) and a bidirectional internal multiplexer (MI1) for separate management of exchanges with the channel and station. The multiplexer resolves conflicts in deterministic and standard modes. |
