<p>The weft-insertion device has, on the weft exit side of the shed (6), a yarn-holding device (13) for receiving and releasing the weft end (4''), which device essentially comprises two clamping parts (16, 17) and a nozzle (18). Preferably, one clamping part (16) is stationary and the other clamping part (17) movable and together they form a wedge-shaped nip (24). A blowing or suction nozzle (18) sucks or blows the end (4'') of the weft end into the nip (24) at the moment when the weft insertion is completed. During the blowing or suction of the weft end (4'') into the nip (24) by means of the compressed-air pulse of the blowing nozzle (18) or the suction pulse by means of the suction nozzle, the weft end (4'') is automatically jammed or wedged as soon as the tensile force in the weft yarn (4), which builds up in the weft yarn during braking by means of the yarn stop (11) mounted on the weft-insertion side, takes effect. An actuating device (20) acting on the movable clamping part (17) releases the weft end again during or after the beating up of the weft yarn (4') in the fabric (10). The weft device makes it possible to achieve a substantial reduction in the air consumption and yarn waste.
