In order to branch off from a continuous electric line (6) at least one other limited or continuous electric line (7), a potential distributor has an insulating housing that consists of an inner part (1) and of an outer part that can be set on the inner part (1) like a hat. A contact piece (3) housed in the outer part (2) has at least two pairs of U-shaped insulation displacement clips (4, 5) that stand on the contact piece (3). Both insulation displacement clips of each pair provided for one electric line stand exactly opposite each other. When the housing is closed, the electric lines (6, 7) are clamped in the insulation displacement clips and the tension on the electric lines (6, 7) is relieved on both sides of each insulation displacement clip.
