A joystick 2 comprises a base 4 and handle 6, the handle having one or more function buttons 48, 50 which operate switches 52, 54. The handle 6 is detachably mounted on a spigot 10 of the base. Electrical connections 46 for the switches 52, 54 are joined to a handle socket connector 44 which receives a p.c.b. or other connector 30 mounted on the top of the spigot 10, so that electrical connection to the switches 52, 54 is made as the handle is mounted in position.
