The alternator includes the stator (12) which is installed in a two-part casing (16,18) and gripped between the radial surfaces (54,56) of the respective parts. One (52) of the two conventional annular seals of axially compressible elastomer or rubber is retained, but the other is superseded by four elastic buffer blocks (62) distributed uniformly around the axis (X-X) at right angles to the respective clamping screws (44). Each buffer is of generally rectangular parallelepipedal form with one face (66) pressed against the annular radial end face (30) of the stator, and a parallel face against the radial surface (54) of the casing (16).
