A process for mfr. of gauze of weft and warp threads entails: weaving simultaneously an upper (8) and a lower (7) gauze strip one on top of the other independently in a loom, esp. a narrow fabric needle loom (1); forming loops (16,17) along superimposed edges of (12,15) upper (11) and lower (10) weft threads turned back on each other so that the loops lie on top of each other, and, following on from the weaving procedure, joining the loops by passing through them a different securing thread (21) and tying them in by the selfsame thread already passed through. Also claimed is the gauze so mfd. Each set of weft threads extend over only a part of the weave breadth from the outer edges (13,14).
