Air bag module in which the air bag itself consists of two exactly overlapping cover sections (3,4) made from a suitable textile fabric. The sections are joined to each other by stitches along the free edges. At least 50% of the length of the sewn stretch is formed as an inner seam (7) and the remainder as the outer seam (8) in the lower section of the inflated and unfolded bag. The air bag can consists of a single cut-out piece of fabric (1) folded about the projection axis (2).
