Protecting inner container walls from corrosive materials, esp. for high strength steels of reactors in which reactions involving supercritical water oxidn. are taking place, e.g. the conversion of contaminated waste with materials that are difficult to break down, by inserting a non-corrosive layer of protective fluid at the same pressure as the corrosive material, sepd. by a partition wall of corrosion-resistant material, between the walls of the container and the corrosive material. On one side, the regions of corrosive material and protective fluid are pressure coupled to each other by at least one passageway in the partition wall, and on the other side, in relation to their corrosive effect, they are completely decoupled from each other by the partition wall. Also claimed is a device to carry out the above process having a high strength outer pressure tube contg. a corrosion resistant reaction tube. The pressure tube is fixed at the feed side to a feed head. The reaction tube is fixed inside the feed head to the fuel and oxygen flows, and has the outlet pipe at its other end in the outlet head. The space between the reaction pipe and the pressure tube is fixed to the wash stream of the protective fluid.
