For single-track lines with common track conductor loops (L2) in the approach region of light signals (LSL, LSR) which are associated with different directions of traffic there is still only a single line device (SG) for alternately feeding information messages whose contents are determined by the signal aspects connected to the two light signals. This information is taken from memories (SIR, SIL) and switched alternately to a transmitter (SRL) for feeding the track conductor. The travel command data of the light signal (LSR) adjacent the line device (SG) are directly available in a memory (SIR) which can be controlled by this light signal. The travel command data for the opposite direction can be picked up directly or indirectly at a receiver (EL) which can be controlled, via a transmission channel (K), by the signal (LSL) for the opposite direction. The line device can alternately emit information messages associated with different directions of traffic without special level monitoring and assessment of separate synchronization identifiers.
