Model for screening cpds. (A) for inhibition of Helicobacter P-type ATPase (H-PATPase), comprises: (a) recombinant organism in which cells are transformed with at least 1 H-PATPase gene regulated by a promoter; (b) inducer for H-PATPase gene activation; (c) cations that affect the metabolic activity of the organism only in presence of H-PATPase; and (d) measuring device for determn. of metabolic activity. Also new are: (1) purified and isolated DNA sequences contg. the Helicobacter-specific ATPase genes 439, 514 and 948, the respective 3410, 3097 and 4095 bp nucleic acid sequences of which are given in the specification; and (2) vectors contg. such DNA.
