Throttle valve control for varying cross=section of IC engine inlet port

The throttle valve is mounted on a swivel shaft (5) driven by the control linkage. The linkage includes two drive levers (10,13) linked by an elastic element, with the normal relative positions of the drive levers at 45 deg. to each other. The other end of the shaft is fitted with a servo brake (7-9) by which the valve can be stabilised in any setting e.g. fully closed, fully open etc.The brake can be a simple electro-magnetic type, an electric motor, or a conventional eddy current brake, friction brake etc. The brake operation is linked to the engine management control and enables the control to eliminate e.g. the flutter effects of the varying airflow through the inlet manifold.
