In a process and device for inflating a gas cushion of the air-bag type, at least two pressurised inflation or vehicle gases are stored completely separately from each other and brought together via gas outlets and a shared burstable closure in a chamber outside the gas containers. Additionally thereto or separately therefrom there are means for controlling the pressure cycle of a vehicle gas in a vehicle gas container (pressure rise after ignition and/or subsequent pressure-drop) and/or to control the time elapsed between the bursting of the closure and the exit of the vehicle gas from its container.
