PRODUCTION OF WATER ABSORBING POLYESTER FIBER

PURPOSE: To obtain a water absorbing polyester fiber having water absorptivity with durability and freedom in the touch feeling at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: A polyester thick and thin fiber having fine grooves, extending in the direction at right angles from the fiber axial direction on the fiber surface and having a length of <=70% fiber outer perimeter and <=1μm width is immersed in a hydrophilic agent solution, squeezed and then heat-treated at 130-200 deg.C to apply 0.1-1.0wt.% hydrophilic agent to the fiber. The fiber has 2-5 fine grooves for 10μm length in the fiber axial direction.
