PURPOSE: To provide a method for biologically degrading a halogenated organic acid, capable of sufficiently degrading the halogenated organic acid contained in water, especially not only in city water but also in inferior environmental water such as waste water or waste aqueous solutions into harmless compounds, by allowing a specific microorganism belonging to the genus Renobacter to act on the halogenated organic acid. CONSTITUTION: A Renobacter species AC strain (FERM P-14641) which is a microorganism having dehalogenase capable of hydrolytically degrading a halogenated organic acid such as a halogenated acetic acid or a halogenated propionic acid is cultured in the presence of the halogenated organic acid under a dehalogenase-acting condition. The strain has a sufficient halogenated acid- degrading ability, grows even under inferior environments, and holds its degradation activity even under the inferior environments. |
