PURPOSE: To improve the quality of a cast slab by preventing the crack of the cast slab caused by the interpose of slag and the unevenness of crystal grain in the cast slab. CONSTITUTION: The immersion wall 8 of a cover material 5 is dipped into molten metal M and, a gapδbetween the facing surface 14a to rolls along the surfaces of the rolls 1A, 1B of the immersion wall 8 and the rolls 1A, 1B, is also made to be the min. so as not to contact, and the molten metal surface corresponding to the opening part of this gapδat the molten metal side is made to be a shrinkage curving surface A by a surface tension and the shift of the rolls 1A, 1B to prevent the invasion of the molten metal M into the gapδ. By this method, the invasion of the slag from the immersion wall 8, is prevented and further, the shrunk curving-state molten metal A is scarcely affected to wave-moving of the molten metal surface, and the good quality cast slab without unevenness of the crystal grain can be produced.
