The invention relates to an apparatus for methodical didactic help in improving skills required for sports- type recreation such as a ball game. The apparatus according to the invention comprises: detection means for detecting a game object reaching a target area; and a signalling circuit which is designed to emit a signal perceptible by a human after the game object has been detected by the detection means. The signalling circuit comprises: signal conversion means; a memory section and control means, the control means being designed to transmit a signal stored in the memory section to the signal conversion means after the game object has been detected in the target area by the detection means, the signal conversion means being designed to convert a signal from the memory section into a form perceivable by a human. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the signal perceivable by a human is in the form of a spoken message, so that the apparatus fulfils a didactic function by expressing motivating messages.
