An isolation valve which employs a swinging gate to block the inlet and outlet ports of the valve. The gate is capable of introducing a secondary motion once the blocking position is reac hed whereby parts of the gate move laterally to seal against seating faces provided in the body of the valve. This action reduces abrasion of the valve gate faces experienced by prior art valves.
