PURPOSE: To improve the response for coordinate detection with respect to a command of a stylus pen, to enhance the durability, and to prevent malfunction having been caused in a conventional tablet device when other part than the matrix panel is pointed out in the display panel integrated tablet device. CONSTITUTION: When a stylus pen 14 is used to point out a position on a matrix panel for a coordinate detection period, at least one potential distribution deformation in sets of potential distribution deformation (deformation at fixed ends) sf, sr generated at a front side column electrode 21 is detected at the scanning start and end time of a detection scanning pulse scanning a row electrode on the rear side. That is, whether or not the stylus pen 14 is set on the matrix panel is discriminated depending on the presence of the fixed end deformation of the potential distribution, and then a mechanical switch is replaced with an electric switch by using the fixed end deformation of the potential distribution caused for the coordinate detection period.
