PURPOSE: To obtain a persistent current switch which is thermally stabilized and lessened in heater capacity by a method wherein a thermal switch through which a thermal circuit composed of a low-temperature stage and a switch support member is closed or opened is provided. CONSTITUTION: A thermal switch 20 through which a thermal circuit composed of a low-temperature stage 17 and a switch support member 18 is closed or opened is provided. A switch winding 3 of a switching section 10 is heated by a heater 5 to turn a switch superconductive lead wire into a normal conductive state, a current switch is turned off, and a current is fed to a superconductive coil from a main power supply. On the other hand, the heater 5 is made to stop heating the switch winding 3 to turn the thermal switch 20 on to short the thermal circuit, whereby the persistent current switch is turned on. When the thermal switch 20 is turned on to short the thermal circuit, a movable conduction cooling member 21 is driven upwards by a drive 23 to bring the top into contact with the underside of the switch support member 18. |
