PURPOSE: To surely judge whether a dot character symbol printed on a food can or the like is good or not. CONSTITUTION: The check pattern of each character is generated from the image of a check object character string by picture processing (102 to 105). Each input character is collated with a pattern 2 of the normal character and a pattern of a dot omitted character which can be correctly read regardless of drop-out of dots and if it doesn't coincide with the pattern 2 neither the pattern 3, it is judged to be a defective print (106 to 111). Since the input character coincides with the pattern 3 and is judged to be good when it is correctly read regardless of drop-out of dots, effects of improvement of the yield of products, improvement of the line operating ratio, etc., are obtained. |
