PURPOSE: To realize a gas discharge display device which is bright, is good in contrast and facilitates integration of driving circuits. CONSTITUTION: Respective cells constituting pixels are composed of separated address discharge spaces 36 and display discharge spaces 15, priming holes 26 connecting both spaces, address electrodes 23, 35 and discharge display electrodes 12, 27. An address discharge is induced by the AC type discharge dividing an address period to an address map forming period and a priming period for inducing the display discharge in the discharge spaces 36. The charge particles generated by the discharge in the priming period are diffused via the holes 26 to the discharge spaces 15, by which the display discharge initiation voltage of the cells is dropped and only the cells generated with the priming discharge in the discharge spaces 36 are subjected to discharge display by the display voltage commonly impressed on all the cells. |
